"Sound in film is divided into two categories: the sounds that clearly derive from the actions we see on the screen, like conversation and sound effects (called diegetic sound); and the sounds that are imposed from outside, like music scores and narrative voiceovers (called non-diegetic sound)." (p.240)
I like this quote because it reminds me of the huge amount of sound design and effort put into movies and television. When I was still in high school I took a film production class and often had to create and edit videos. The thing that was always the hardest to get right was the sound especially if you were filming on a phone. The smallest amount of wind or distance would ruin the audio and often you would have to voice over a scene.
Often I would also have trouble with the music as its harder than one would think to properly mix sound so that the music is not to loud or to quiet. This quote reminded me of all of this from so long ago I found it nostalgic and quite enjoyable.

"Tracking shots allow directors to follow characters through landscapes, or to move toward or away from an action."(p.241)
This quote also reminded me of the same class but also some other things and I quite like this quote. In the previously mentioned class I had to film a lot and often with a phone camera which is surprisingly bad when it comes to making videos. Also It reminded me of some of my favorite scenes from film that involve tracking shots. In the movie Forest Gump which I loved watching as a kid there is a scene where is is running back and forth using this technique to film. I always thought it was a really cool way to show fast passed action in a film.

"No film genre is more historically associated with Hollywood than the Western tale of good and evil."(p.249)
I have always liked western films because of their historical accuracy to the lawless nature of frontier living in the late 1800's. Growing up I watched a lot of old Clint Eastwood films and fell in love with the gunslinging good guy and old fashioned dules in the street. My favorite would definitely have to be a Fistful of Dollars but generally I like all of the Eastwood movies from that timeframe. I always found the time period to be interesting and how gangs of criminals would square off against sheriffs and their deputies.
